End of the Line for Renaissance at Hillside

The Renaissance at Hillside

The Renaissance at Hillside, a nursing home located in Hillside, Illinois, is shutting down and will be replaced with a new facility called Aria Post Acute Care, LLC.  The name “Renaissance” has become synonymous with poor or substandard care for its residents.  Complaints against Renaissance include residents suffering from urinary tract infections, bed sores, pressure ulcers, malnutrition, dehydration and recently, one resident was actually tied up by a nurse so that he wouldn’t move in the middle of the night.  Countless lawsuits have been filed against this facility in the Circuit Court of Cook County alleging nursing abuse and neglect against it and its employees and agents.

However, Aria is really just the same horse in a different color.  Renaissance and Aria are both controlled by NuCare Health – a private healthcare company.  Apparently, Renaissance had so many claims filed against it that it could no longer afford to operate as The Renaissance at Hillside.  So, NuCare created a new corporate identity, i.e. Aria, to take over the maintenance and operation of the facility formerly known as The Renaissance at Hillside.

Here’s the catch — the owners, operators, staff members and administrators are all essentially the same.  The facility is just operating with a new corporate identity.  So while the former Renaissance facility may be spruced up with some new awnings and marketing material in the near future as “Aria,” the level of care its residents are receiving may stay the same.  And for those of you with a potential claim or lawsuit against The Renaissance at Hillside, I suggest you act quickly — as bankruptcy is probably in this company’s immediate future.
